Between Heaven and the Dolomites
A place of spirituality
The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Pietralba is the most important place of pilgrimage in South Tyrol and is situated at an altitude of 1,550 m. The Baroque basilica, also known as the Cathedral of the Dolomites, has stood majestically on the slopes of the Val d'Ega mountains for centuries.

Servants of the Blessed Virgin
The Order of the Servants of Mary, or Servites, dates back to the 13th century when it was founded by a group of seven noblemen from Florence who withdrew to Monte Senario for a life of penance, poverty and prayer.
The Order acts as custodian of the places where the Blessed Virgin left a special memory, all of which are in particularly impressive locations. With a presence in Austria (Innsbruck, Volders, Gutenstein, Maria Loggau, Waldrast and Vienna), in Veneto (Verona, Isola Vicentina and Vicenza) and in South Tyrol (Pietralba), they were called upon by Princess Anna Caterina Gonzaga, Archduchess of Tyrol to counter the spread of Protestantism.
